Another variable in establishing the rhythm of a poetic verse has to do with the distribution of the principal stress. The principal stress refers to the syllable of the verse that is emphasized when the poem is recited.

Task 1. Identify.

1.			Three different types of stress are listed on pages 127-128 of the text. Identify them and write them.

Task 2. Paraphrase.

2.			Now paraphrase the definitions of the three types of stress, based on the explanations in the text.

Task 3. Apply. Apply this knowledge of stress to the three poems you examined in the previous section. What are los acentos principales for each poem?
