Each year, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety issues an annual compilation of motor vehicle accidents titled FACTS. Among the state breakdowns available are:

1. Fatal crashes, deaths, death rate/100,000 people, deaths/100,000 registered vehicles, deaths/100,000 licensed drivers, passenger deaths.
2. Motor vehicle deaths by type (cars, pickups, trucks, motorcyclists, pedestrians).
3. State laws on safety belts, blood alcohol levels, penalties for drunk driving, helmet laws, young driver laws.

Select a subject for investigation and ask the Institute for its current data. Compare your state's standings with other states. Check city data as well.
