The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issues infant mortality figures by the race and ethnicity of mothers. There is a considerable range in these figures. Japanese mothers have an infant mortality rate of one-fourth of black mothers, for example.
Obtain the latest data for all groups the Centers lists and use the Internet for explanations or comments on the wide disparities in these figures. Also, check with local medical authorities for their comments.
Make sure to localize your material with figures for your states, and try to obtain the figures for your city. The city health department usually puts these figures online. If not, obtain them from the department.
