Bias

     Seventy-five years ago, 26 percent of those teaching on college campuses were women. Five years ago, the figure approached 40 percent. Twenty-five years ago, less than half the women in higher education had tenure. The figure was about the same five years ago. Twenty-five years ago, 66 percent of the men in higher education had tenure. Five years ago, it was 75 percent.
     Twenty years ago, women in higher education were paid about 90 percent of men's salaries across the ranks. The figure was about the same five years ago.
     Use the Internet to bring these figures up to date and find the figures for your campus. Write a local story with the national situation as background.
