Dentist Fashion Designer| Narrator: He lives in a world of fillings and fashion. Dresses and dentures. Models and molars. Dr. Steve Schneider is a dentist but also a successful fashion designer, for men and women.Doctor Schneider: It's a fun industry. It's an entertaining industry. It's an art form. I am a cosmetic dentist, and as you'll find most cosmetic dentists have some other form of art that they're interested in.Narrator: For him the artistic outlet is fashion.Doctor Schneider: Clothing is kind of fun because you are able to do your art yet see somebody enjoy it instead of putting it up on a wall.Narrator: He started designing to pay his way though UCSD and now he has clothing in 29 countries and has designed for people like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stone.Narrator 2: This jacket was made for a Bruce Springsteen tour. The boss wore this jacket. This jacket was born in the USA.Narrator: And this man of two careers says he really couldn't pick between runways and root canals.Doctor Schneider: I am one of these strange people. I really like dentistry. I don't think I will ever give up working on teeth. It's a very personal business.Narrator: With dentistry he enjoys the interaction with patients.Doctor Schneider: I get to talk to people every day and work with people. When I am working with clothing, it's usually on a drawing board. It's kind of my quiet time.Narrator: And of course most people in the fashion world know he is a dentist so at fashion shows he gets lots of questions about teeth.Doctor Schneider: Basically they come and show me their teeth and ask me if this looks good or if they need a cavity filled and if dentistry hurts.Narrator: And yes, when he's watching models on the runway, he thinks it's very important that they have nice teeth. |
