     The editor of the local newspaper (50,000 circulation in a county seat in Illinois) has asked you to draw up for her a policy statement on taste that she will consider for adoption by her staff. Write about 500 words as a "position paper" and include some general suggestions and your reasons for them. Cite actual cases and the comments and experiences of reporters and editors.

  1. You were covering the event for the Times.
  2. You reported for a major television network.
  3. You read the epithet on the AP wire story and edited the story for your newspaper of 25,000 circulation in Texas.
  4. You edited the story for a metropolitan newspaper.
