What Is News

Introduction

News is the timely account of events of importance and significance. The closer the event—psychologically or physcically—the greater its news value.
News value is enhanced by the involvemnt in events of people who are well-known. We also make news out of strange and unusual situations. News values are not absolute.
Decisions on what is to be used and how it is to be used depend on considerations such as the nature of the news medium and its audience and the role that the individual station or newspaper has established for itself in the community.
