The Institute for Highway Safety keeps figures and in past releases has reported the death rate for the smallest cars on the market was double the rate of standard-sized cars, 3 deaths per 10,000 registered cars for the smallest, 1.3 for the larger models. Consumer magazines have reported safety problems with SUVs.
